A Generation Lost

All bullshit aside, I’ll get straight to the point no chaser. The youth of today is in a lack of a better word lost. The sad thing is that the only people we have to blame for this dilemma is ourselves as black people. We sit around and try to lay blame on today’s society for reasons why we can’t get ahead or why we can’t achieve the things we see our counterparts getting whether they be black or white. Aside from all that we as a people need to get ourselves together and raise ourselves up and come together as a people and better ourselves. Recently I read the letter that David Banner wrote to some of our so called black leaders and I agree with him almost 100%. At the same time I can see where those people have tried to a certain extent to help us better ourselves and why they have in my opinion failed to do so. I think the main reason they failed is because they haven’t truly made the effort to reach out and touch basis with the youth today, the thing is I can’t entirely blame them for that. I can blame our generation and there's for not trying to find some common ground and coming up with some kind of resolve. But I am going to give my opinion on what I think the younger generation is feeling because I am a part of that generation and I have some idea of the mentality that we have. If you look at it most of the youth today come from broken homes with no real role models in the household, I’m not saying that to be derogatory to black men out there who takes care of their responsibilities because there are many who do. I’m speaking on the ones who aren’t man enough to take care of the responsibilities, they have in this world. A lot of us also grew up in tough neighborhoods doing whatever we had to do to survive in the streets, that’s a common story that we all have heard time and time again but it remains a constant in the black community. As far as our older generation goes they came from a time where there was more structure and stability in the household. We all know they had single family homes as well but there weren’t as prevalent as they are in today’s society. I think the thing that makes the generations so different is that even thought we have things in common the one difference that we have is the younger generation haven’t had the outstanding leadership that the older generation was blessed with. The older generation was fortunate enough to have the leadership and wisdom of the Martin Luther King’s the Malcolm X’s the Medgar Evers and countless of other black leaders. So in my opinion those who weren’t fortunate enough to be blessed with a stable family still had something to and or someone to look up too. It seemed as if in the 60’s and 70’s there was more for a person to be involved in. I feel that even then if one of those aforementioned leaders wasn’t that someone you followed then there were different causes going on that people were able to be apart of to keep them proud of themselves and their people. People in those times actually came together and tried to better themselves and a people, family, and community and sadly to say you hardly see that anymore. The people of the 80’s and 90 are who have been commonly referred to as the hip-hop generation didn’t grow up in the same type of situation. Even though the gap between the two generations is small the gap between the different lifestyles is enormous. It’s seems as if as soon as the 80’s hit a wave of self deprecation fell over our people as a whole in my opinion. It seems as if those years sent our people on a downward spiral to where we are now. If you look at the differences that I’m trying to point out you might see the difference that I’m talking about. The People of the 80’s, which is the generation that I’m apart of since I was born in 1981, were apart of a whole different way of living that our counterparts of the 60’s and 70’s. I feel the main cause if this is what I said previously, the lack of black leaders to me was a detrimental part of our youth growing up with the attitudes that we have today. While the older generations had all those leaders that I’ve mentioned before whom did we have in the 80’s and 90’s really? We have not that that significant black figure to step up and take on the responsibility of helping our people come together like they did in the early days, I feel that is why we are a reckless generation that doesn’t really care about what goes on in the world today. I also feel that with the emergence of a black presidential candidate it will show our young that they really can do whatever it is they desire in life. Even if Obama fails to become the first Afrikan American president, what he has accomplished should be more than enough to inspire something in any young black person that wants to do something with their lives. But at the same time they always say you can’t help everyone, but what I hope to accomplish is to reach a few that’s willing to do what they can to help someone discover who they really are and stop feeding into the stereotypes that others place upon us. As you read you might see that I’m not your typical intellectual writer because I’m not. I’m a regular guy who just has some shit on his mind that he wants to get across, so if you don’t understand or my grammar isn’t good enough for you then……..hey it sucks for you. The real people who read this will understand what was trying to say and those are they people who I wanted to get my message to. I’m not writing this to get any recognition from some bugeouise egghead sitting in an office. I’m writing this for the regular common people who have the same ideals as myself and others. Maybe this dosent reach a lot of people but I hope it makes an impact on the ones that it does reach and I hope they let others know how they feel about this situation. Maybe this way we can start to make a positive impact on others and try to instill this mentality in others. A change is here

Finally America will see a black president and I am proud to be able to witness this glorious even and actually be able to say that I contributed to the cause. A lot of people just see this as us just getting a black president and don't really see the big picture and what this should mean. I know that Obama is going to make a great impact upon the world in a time in which we really need it. The thing that I want people to really see in all of this is that by witnessing this great event you should realize that you can do anything. Who would have ever thoght that we would have a black president ever in life? People should see this and really get out there and get on their grind to do whatever it it they want to do in life. After seeing this there isn't anything I don't think I can accomplish if I want it enough and others should have the same attitude in my opinion. I know for me personally I see this monumental occasion as a stepping stone for everyone, for me after seeing this happen there has to be change. There is no way you can sit there and just keep doing the same shyt that you've been doing, we have to get with the program and keep it moving, it really is time for a change. I encourage all my friends and love ones to make some kind of change for the better along with the world that we live in because by Obama getting elected shows you that this world is going forward and getting better daily and you should want the same for yourself. The shyt you did this year and in the previous years should be the shyt your not trying to do after today. It's time to stop existing and to start living and keep shyt moving forward, staying the same and doing the same shyt will have you as a person and this world a fucked up place, a prime example is the state of dismay that American has been in the last few years. Obama becoming the next president is an example that it really is time for a much needed change, and i'm accepting that challenge and I suggest you all do the same. it's time to stop the Im gonna do this next week Im gonna do this next year, I do this myself everyday but it's time to stop puttin that shyt off the time is now......remember that song a change is gonna come, well guess what.........That change is here...........................BE EASY..........K. NIGGAS

I JUST HAVE A QUESTION THAT I WANTED TO ASK PEOPLE, ITS JUST SOMETHING SMALL THAT I'VE HAD ON MY M IND FOR A WHILE NOW. WHY IS IT THAT NIGGAS DON'T CARE ABOUT WHO THEY ARE AND WHERE THEY CAME FROM THESE DAYS??? PEOPLE USED TO CARE ABOUT THEIR HERITAGE AND ACTUALLY TAKE PRIDE IN BEING A BLACK AMERICAN. NOW IT SEEMS AS IF NO ONE COULD GIVE A DAMN ABOUT ANY OF IT AND AREN'T EVEN MAKING AN ATTEMPT TO LEARN ABOUT IT. BUT THE THING THAT BOTHERS ME IS WHEN YOU ACTUALLY TRY TO DROP A JEWEL ON SOMEONE AND GIVE THEM A LITTLE HISTORY OR A LET THEM IN ON SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT BLACK AMERICAN OR JUST TRY AND TALK ABOUT SOMETHING EDUCATIONAL NIGGAS DON'T WANNA HEAR IT. KNOWLEDGE OF SELF

What is knowledge of self? In simple English words it’s a simple question with a simple answer depending on the depth of one’s intellect. It’s not until you really ask a person this question and they ponder what it means to really be able to answer it fully and wholeheartedly. When asked this question on a serious platform or not you really have to think about those three words presented to you, Knowledge of Self, what does that really mean or what does that mean to the person presented with the question. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines it as: knowledge or understanding of one’s capabilities, characters, feelings, or motivations. But my question is what does it really mean??? Different people with different mind sets are going to interpret things in various different reasons because as individuals we all think different things. I think knowledge of self is something that we are lacking in today’s society and I feel it’s prevalent in young people and in my case young black people. Most young blacks today don’t know what kind of people the derive from, they don’t know about the kings and queens of African history, of the great empires black people rules for years and years, they have no sense of history about themselves therefore they don’t properly know who they are really. Young blacks today see rappers, sports figures, entertainers, and even in some terrible situations street thugs and its sad to say but they look to these people as role models. Not saying that there is anything wrong with wanting to be a rapper, actor, or an athlete but realistically the odds are stacked against our children no matter what the hell they want to be. The point is that kids see all these wild and crazy images on television or in movies or things they hear on the radio and they run with it, and the sad part is that for the most part that’s all they really have to learn from. It’s not like kids are going to say hey lets go to the library and learn about our history, on the flip side its grown ass men and women that don’t know shit about themselves and are in the same mental state as the young kids running around here in the streets and once again it’s not entirely their fault. I mean let’s be honest here, what did you learn in school about your black history?? I will wait for a second and let you think on that………………………………..You barely learned anything, you learned about MLK, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman and a few other leading figures in the black history category, but that’s barely scratching the surface when it comes to the history of the black man in America. I still can’t see how you can have American History and Black History as two separate subjects. Black History and American History is one in the same, without one there could not be the other, hell America was built on the back of BLACKS in AMERICA so please tell me how our stories be different. Schools make sure they leave all the accomplishments of black out of the schools and books so we don’t learn about them, but this is where that phrase Knowledge of Self comes in. Knowledge of Self is like anything else in life if you want it you have to go out and get it, it’s not going to just one day land in your lap out of the blue and this is what we have to stress to our friends and family, we have to stress that we have to know where we came from. How can you say you really know who you are if you don’t know where you came from. You might say you have a knowledge of self and you know who you are and this and that but how can you know where you are going if you don’t even know where you’ve been. .............................K.
